First, I would like to congratulate all those who were successful in their GCSEs and A-Levels. The results at Millfield Science and Performing Arts College were very impressive this year: 95% A*-C in English and 78% A*-C in Maths! Well done Millfield!
Dozens of you have been in touch about the planning application submitted by Wainhomes for the development of 165 dwellings at Lambs Road. Along with many of you, I have submitted my objections to Wyre Council. The application should be rejected because of the pressure it will put on our highways and green space and, I fear that it would open the way for a much larger development which could see Thornton lose its identity. I know from personal experience the existing pressures on Lambs Road and Skippool Road. Please be assured that I will be doing all I can to continue to oppose this application.
Over the last few years National Grid has been exploring how to bring the electricity from our power stations in Cumbria to the centre of the North West. One option would have involved large sub-stations at Stannah and power lines across Fylde. After much lobbying I have persuaded them to lay a tunnel under upper Morecambe Bay, so hopefully Wyre will be protected. However, we do not want them to forget us so, if you can please continue to object to the “Offshore south” option in favour of the “green” route. I hope you have had a good summer. Things are looking up: the economy is growing and unemployment is falling.
On a personal note, my youngest summer started his first full day at school this month. How odd it is that after all these years there is no little person at home during the day. They aren’t babies for long!
With all good wishes until next month,
Ben Wallace
Member of Parliament for Wyre and Preston North
