With November and Remembrance events now behind us, we find ourselves looking forward to Christmas. I was privileged to lay a wreath in Garstang on Remembrance Sunday this year. It was great to see so many people turning out to remember the fallen in all conflicts.
I continue to travel around the constituency, recently visiting schools in the area during Parliament week. I spoke about my role in Parliament to both Junior and secondary schools, answering a number of questions which ranged from Brexit to what my favourite colour was. I also enjoy greatly hosting schools at the Houses of Parliament throughout the year and I always recommend that schools visit.
I enjoyed visiting Moulton Printing recently, who produce this focus magazine. I was given a very interesting tour of the premises from David Moulton which included looking at some state of the art printing machines to viewing vintage printing presses. David has been in the printing industry for over 50 years and I would like to thank him and his wife Sue for making me welcome.
I always like visiting local businesses and I was pleased to visit CPC’s Head Office in Fulwood recently and to meet with Chris Haworth, Managing Director and Tom Darkins, Head of Sales Development. CPC is a leading business-to-business distributor of electrical products, established in 1967. I was delighted to learn more about the business and have a tour of the shop floor and warehouse. It is great to have such a high profile business on our doorstep. During our discussions I was pleased to tell the company’s management that the Treasury is considering new action to tackle overseas VAT avoiders who undercut British companies by selling foreign products through eBay and Amazon, without charging the correct level of sales tax. I am always keen to discover the issues and problems local businesses face, with this in mind please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like me to visit your business.
My mailbag continues to be filled by many local issues from Wyre Councils draft local plan to tackling speeding traffic in our towns and villages. The many letters I receive keep me informed of the issues which concern residents and help me to target my efforts effectively. Please remember, I welcome the views and opinions of residents on both local and national issues.
With Christmas approaching, my thoughts are with those who are parted from their loved ones due to service in the Armed Forces and with the Emergency Services and many vital services who keep on working for us over the holiday period. I hope you all have a happy, peaceful Christmas.
