I was delighted to welcome the Prime Minister to Lancashire recently and to accompany him during his visit to BAE Warton. BAE Systems is a major employer in the constituency and during his visit the Prime Minister paid tribute to the innovation of the company and the vital role they have supporting the country’s Armed Forces. Traveling with the PM also gave me the opportunity to raise other issues in connection with the constituency.
Earlier this month, I met again with representatives of BT to discuss the continued rollout of Superfast Broadband. I am pleased that some progress has been made; however I am particularly concerned about the progress made in rural areas. I do believe rural business could benefit greatly from this service and I am keen to hear from such businesses in order to highlight gaps in the service.
I have mentioned before in this column, what a great pleasure it is to welcome Gala and Queens to Parliament. I was delighted to have tea with Abigail Robinson and her family recently, Churchtown’s Festival Gala Queen.
I am also always delighted to meet children from local schools in Westminster and I recently took part in a visit from Calder Vale School, answering questions from pupils.
I continue to meet residents at my advice surgeries covering a wide range of issues. Please remember if you would like to attend a surgery, the most effective way to contact me is by e-mail, with a brief description of the issue you would like to raise.
